Great Lakes Radio, Inc. (GLR) is seeking a passionate, qualified, detail-oriented sports professional with strong computer and communications abilities who can develop close and productive relationships with athletic directors, sponsors, and GLR staff.
The successful candidate will handle all aspects of sports for all stations at Great Lakes Radio, Inc., including but not limited to ensuring that sports sponsors are delivered the full array of options promised and that Great Lakes Radio Sports is the gold standard for sports coverage in our market.
From equipment, to announcers and color, to board ops, to game promotions, to organizing and managing the weekly sports shows and daily sports promos, to online presence, and to every detail of each game, the successful candidate will deliver results. The goals is that every dollar spent on his pay means at least 3 times as much is made through sports sponsorships and online and non-traditional revenue opportunities.
Every aspect of excellent sports promotions, sports programming, online promotions, sports broadcast technology, and the broadcasts will be the responsibility of the Sports Director.
The candidate will be able to manage internal information, inter- and intra-station communications, and public promotions of sports so that our schools, the public, our online visitors, and all station(s) personnel will be up-to-date and ready to discuss recent and upcoming sports events with knowledge and confidence. The candidate will make our online sports presence – such as UpLocalSports.com – shine, providing the definitive coverage, archive, and promotions for the games we broadcast..

Make www. uplocalsports.com their own. The ideal candidate is so passionate and committed that they’d be ashamed if a bit of our sports coverage isn’t both on air or on line.
He or She takes a personal interest in making sure that on-air staff says the score last night. If some aspect of our sports efforts falls short, the successful candidate takes immediate action to make sure errors and mistakes don’t happen again.
The successful candidate fixes problems. They are the master of the system, planning for the unexpected, and delivering even under tough circumstances.

He or she has the ability to make sales people feel confident about our sports programs and products, because, in part, salespeople are confident the GLR Sports Directors. The GLR Sports Director knows their stuff, gets it right, and generates excitement about the results.
When there is the slightest problem in a broadcast, he or she gets on the phone, remotely logs in, or even hops in car and runs down to fix it. That’s because the successful sports director monitors results, double-checks efforts, verifies, and uses that information to improve the outcome every single day.
The successful candidate is as comfortable at lunch with a big client or schools athletic director as they are solving an unbalanced sound equipment or working out the kinks in phone lines in various venues. Whatever the unknowns, the successful candidate will effectively cope to meet every challenge.
The ideal candidate does their job because they love the stuff. The ideal candidate has initiative, is creative, and lives for the best game broadcast possible. The ideal can motivate and lead others to the excitement as well.
He or she sees every part of the job as part of the bigger sports programming mission. Sports is product to sell, a show to produce, and a passion to partake. The Sports Director’s passion for sports delivers premium quality broadcasts and constantly increasing sports sponsorships.

The successful candidate seeks out sports sales, sometimes even participating directly in sales. He or she makes the bottom line rise because successful candidate never forgets the bottom line.
The ideal candidate works to make sure that every sponsor is delivered what GLR promises. Every opportunity for new sponsorship is pursued.
The ideal candidate may know that there is an upper limit to the on-air audience, but online efforts must deliver more and more visitors each week. Video, photos, and write-ups of games are just expected.
Awesome coverage online should be easy to distilled down into a 15 page proposals for each school to renew sports contracts each year.
