Marquette – “A Working Class Hero is Something to Be: Benjamin Franklin and the Politics of Class in 18th Century Philadelphia” will be presented on Thursday, April 8 at 7 p.m. in the Shiras Room at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.
Simon P. Newman, visiting professor of American Studies at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, will explore Franklin’s rise from working class obscurity to one of the most celebrated men of his time. Franklin was accomplished as a writer, inventor, scientist and statesman. However, throughout his life he remained most closely connected to his career as printer and took pride in his identity as a common man.
