The eighth annual Jack Pine Mushers Association Jack Pine 30 sled dog race will take place on Saturday, February 20 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Larry’s Family Foods in Gwinn.
The six-dog, 30-mile, spectator-friendly race has a planned course identical to the Midnight Run trail up to the Carp River M-28/U.S. 41 bridge, where mushers will turn north and follow Lake Street to downtown Marquette. Teams will finish just east of Upfront and Company off Lakeshore Drive, and are expected to cross the finish line from approximately 11:45 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The eight fastest teams will receive plaques at the awards ceremony at approximately 3:30 p.m. A Red Lantern Award will be presented to the last-place finisher.
In conjunction with the race, Upfront an Company will host a Winterfest Warm-Up Party from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., where attendees on the balcony can watch teams cross the finish line.
