Despite high winds and temps in the 50's, surfers Bryan DeAugustine, Scott Thomas and Dan Schetter along with several other surfers braved the elements to catch a few waves just off of Picnic Rocks in Lake Superior in Marquette, Michigan on Sunday, September 28, 2008.
A group of seven surfers could be seen just behind Lakeview Arena catching some of the three to four foot waves crashing on the shores of Lake Superior in Marquette on Sunday.
Bryan DeAugustine has been surfing for about five years. He's caught waves in Mexico and California but he calls Newberry home. “I check the local marine weather reports for tips on when the waves are going to be just right for surfing and its usually pretty accurate. We surf anywhere from Manistique to Marquette and everything in between” stated DeAugustine who traveled from Newberry to meet up with friend and local Marquette surfer, Scott Thomas.
Out of seven surfers, the only one not dressed in a wetsuit was Dan Schetter. “Yeh, it's cold out there but its also a lot of fun. I got the van running so I can get in and warm-up between sets. I think the surfing is better with a long board up by the breakwall” stated Schetter as he talked to the other surfers before retiring to his van.
