Nestled neatly and comfortably in between West Palm Beach and Miami, Lake Worth County has all of the comforts of home without the big city attitudes.
I recently stayed in Lantana, Florida on a business trip as I always do a few times a year and am always impressed with the small town mentality that this community strives to keep. It's like a cross between Negaunee and Marquette as this community caters to the rich and the poor, tourist and local, business community and retirees looking to stay warm during the winter months.
Lantana is also close enough to other attractions to be a perfect hub for a nice vacation. It is 4 hours away from Key West, Disney World, Sea World, alligator farms and the Everglades.
The warm breeze coming off of the Atlantic Ocean keeps the bug population down and provides many opportunities for sight seeing and relaxation.
After school lets out, the teenagers swarm to the beaches for surfing and sun tanning.
With temperatures that average 80 degrees for a majority of the year, baseball and soccer can be played year round as well as training for all types of athletics (except hockey).
There are plenty of local eateries to choose from and most of them are mom and pop type establishments that offer the standard American fare with plenty of fresh local seafood choices.
Did you know that Lake Worth, Florida has the highest population of Finnish people outside of Finland?
The recent hurricane season has wiped out part of Lantana Beach which is home to the Dune Deck Cafe. A beautiful little restaurant on the shores of the Atalntic Ocean. Cement slabs and wooden decking have all caved in and given way to the pounding surf. The restaurant is still accessible from the parking lot and the view is still just as beautiful. According to some locals, the beach has to be rebuilt every four to five years depending on the hurricane season's damage at a cost of approximately 3-4 million dollars.
Plenty of construction is seen from A1A with estates and mansions being constructed on the few lots still available in this wonderful area. The Ritz Carlton in Lantana, Florida is nearly completed with its multi-million dollar expansion.
