MARQUETTE, MI –
The Downtown Marquette Farmers Market is thrilled to announce the return of the Power of Produce (POP) Children’s Program. Operated by Partridge Creek Farm, a non-profit organization from Ishpeming, MI, the POP program aims to foster a healthy, prosperous, and empowered local community through food and wellness education.
This engaging eight-week program will be held every Saturday from July 6 through August 24 during the Saturday Morning Farmers Market from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Marquette Commons. There is no need for pre-registration; children aged 2-12 are welcome to drop by the POP tent to join in the weekly activities. Each week, participants will receive a $5 token to spend on their choice of foods at the market, empowering them with the purchasing power to buy directly from farmers and local vendors.
The POP Program is designed to educate children about fruits and vegetables, local food systems, and healthy food preparation through interactive and enjoyable activities. Kids will have the opportunity to experience the full farmers market environment by trying new foods, conversing with farmers, and purchasing local produce. Weekly activities such as cooking demonstrations and farmers market scavenger hunts provide valuable lessons in nutrition, agriculture, and exercise, encouraging children and families to explore healthy food options in a fun and engaging setting.
The program is funded by a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Marquette County, supporting the initiative to promote local food and wellness education.
