Randy Girard Announces Candidacy For Michigan State House

Randy-Girard-4-MI-House-109

Marquette, MI – 12/8/2023

Marquette County Road Commissioner Randy Girard announced his intention to run for the Michigan House of Representatives 109th District seat Wednesday evening at the Marquette Charter Township Board meeting.

“I appreciate the opportunity to address you this evening. We have a long history of working together addressing and successfully meeting our constituent wants and desires in a timely and economical manner; and, developing ordinances to protect and plan for the long-term disposition of property resources within your boundaries. In light of recent legislative actions detrimental to the people of this Township and other local governments of the U.P, I am this evening announcing my intention to run for the 109th House District in the 2024 Democratic Primary election”.

Girard further explained “the voting record and public commentary of our current Representative on issues such as land use determination, energy requirements, and individual rights does not reflect an understanding of the culture and desires of the U.P. constituents. As an experienced and elected local county and township government leader of over 37 years here in the U.P., I know first-hand what constituents expect of their elected representatives – transparency, honesty, and actual representation of their district interests. We do not have that currently. My public service record shows that I have developed and implemented sound policy decisions that matter most to U.P. residents and businesses that always looked out for what’s best for them and for their bottom line”.

Concluding comments to the Township Board Girard stated “you know that I take a conservative approach to budgeting and operations, and that I’m not afraid to have tough conversations. Constituents know that I will always be responsive, or pick up the phone and call them back. A state representative is obligated to work for the constituents of this district to champion what THEY want above all others – and that’s exactly what I will do”.

Mr. Girard currently serves as Marquette County Road Commissioner, on the Board of Directors for the Marquette Community Federal Credit Union, and Board of Directors for the Marquette County YMCA. He previously served 19 years as Marquette County HR Director and most recently served 19 years as Manager for Marquette Charter Township; was previously elected to two terms on the Marquette County Board of Commissioners; has served 14 years on the Municipal Employees Retirement System of Michigan (MERS) Board of Directors, as well as numerous appointments to Marquette County Boards and Commissions regarding aviation, public health, community corrections, zoning, and recreation.
