Munising, Mich. – August 3rd 2023 –
On August 3rd, at 9am, The National Park Service of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore will cut the ribbon for the brand-new commercial use facilities on Miners Beach. The news is huge for this area of the park. It is one of the most frequented spots in all of the Pictured Rocks. A great area for recreational patrons, commercial use, and group use. It’s even dog friendly as long as the pup stays on a leash.
However, since the area is in such frequent use, especially during the mid-summer months, this creates a lot of traffic. Before the West side staircase down to Miners Beach was devoured by the lovely Lake Superior, it was a large enough path for both patrons and commercial kayaking outfitters to share. Now that it has been obliterated, the NPS decided it was time to make a dedicated area for the outfitters to conduct their operations. Now don’t be worried, it hasn’t become the commercial kayaking headquarters you might be thinking of. It’s actually a new stairway with a dedicated kayak slide! Kind of sounds fun, right? Due to the growing popularity of the Pictured Rocks, the dedication of this structure for the commercial outfitters to use makes plenty of sense. The conflicts between outfitters and recreational patrons definitely do exist. Hopefully, with this new installation, it’ll curb those squabbles, and even improve the logistics of the entirety of Miners Beach; Parking and all!
If you’d like to see what it looks like, you’re more than welcome to observe. You can even spectate the ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 3rd, at 9am! It should prove to be an intelligent, and well-appreciated development to the universally loved area of the park.
We at mediaBrew will likely be covering the ribbon-cutting. We’ll be happy to share pictures with the community of people who care about the activities of the NPS in our beloved national parks in Michigan. We may even conduct some interviews from separate parties the structure will affect.
