1. Jeanette called the meeting to order at 7:35 a.m. Excused were Lee Nellist, Lynn Tousignant ,Mike Prokopowicz, Betsy Burmeister, Steve Adamini and Steven Price. Absent were Herb Parsons and Doug Beauchamp..

2.     Ron L.. motioned to approve Agenda; Mike M. support and motion carried.

3.     Ed T. motioned to approval June 11, 2009 Meeting Minutes; Ron L.. Support; motion carried.

4.     Ron L. motioned to approve Treasurer’s Report submitted by Sally; Ed T. second; motion carried.

5.     Correspondence packet passed for review and comments.

OLD BUSINESS

6.     2009-2010 Dues Collection still in progress:  Due date was June 1, 2009. Reminder statement will be mailed out July 15th to member dues still outstanding.

7.     E-Mail request was sent to entire GSACC membership 7-3-09 for support & participation in upcoming 8th annual Chamber Golf Outing to be held August 7, 2009. 100% of net profits go to Excellence in Education Scholarship Account, Gwinn Chamber Scholarship for GHS students and Gwinn Area Community Fund.

NEW  BUSINESS

8. Mike M. motioned to approve membership applications given to: Attorney Leonard Kaanta and Ultimate Resources Mgr. Marvin Flikkima.. Nina I. supported with Sally S. second;. Motion carried.

REPORTS

9.      Business Development – Mike P/Jeanette/MikeM.. Remember to vote on August 4th.  The Gwinn Area Community School will be sending out to the community residents’ detailed literature on proposed 0.53 millage request for renovations to accommodate Gwinn Middle School Students at the Gwinn High School. Forsyth Township will have a millage renewal on the ballot.

10.  Chamber Report – Jeanette. –  Volunteer hours for May were 171 jm  (93).  There were 783 Guestbook/website views during June. 5 Tourism packets and 15 Welcome packets were sent our by mail or delivered to housing developers or walk-ins during June.  2 members took advantage of our Postal Permit mailing….

11. Gwinn Fun Daze – Jeanette / Mike P. Parade was great .. Bands great. Great crowd.  Food and Game Vendors reported steady business until the rain came down at 2 p.m. when crowd disbursed.   Next year FUN DAZE will be held on JULY 24, 2010.

12.  Gwinn Quarterly – Jeanette will schedule a meeting with Mining Journal representatives in July on future production of Gwinn Quarterly as Action Shopper will no longer be able to produce it. There will not be a September Issue. Next issue will be the November Issue.  Decline in Ad participation by Members will also be reviewed with Mining Journal representatives.  Stories can be submitted in word format or pictures in JPG format via e-mail to gccdir@gwinnmi.com or jeanettemaki@chartermi.net.

13.  Winter Carnival –  Jeanette / Mike P./ Ron Libey / Lynn T. / Barb Matson..-  No Report

14.  Townwide Rummage Sale – No Report .

15.  Golf Outing – JM /  Betsy /  Mike P/ Steve P./Mike M.– AUGUST 7, 2009 –  at Red Fox Run Golf Course.   12 teams are signed up. Still in need of event and tee/hole sponsors and prize donations. Call Jeanette at 360-9187 if you can help and support in anyway.

16.  Student of the Month – Ron. – There are some open slots in Oct –Nov. If you would like to participate, contact Ron Libey at rlibey2@yahoo.com.

17.  Excellence in Education – Mike M., Jeanette, Lee, Betsy, Brian –  No Report.

18. Tree Lighting Ceremony – Mike P. / Jeanette / Jill Paris / Julie Shaw – December 5, 2009.

19. Clock Tower Restoration Project – TheCommittee has raised $15,500 to date from Alumni and is researching grant opportunities at present time.  A 2008 “Remembrance” Quilt has beencreated out of the many individual centennial T-shirts from Frobergs Clothing, Forsyth Historical Society, Gwinn Inn, as well as the official gold T-shirt.  This Quilt will be raffled off from May through Sept. 1st.  Tickets are $5.00 each…And will be sold at Forsyth Township Office, Chamber Office,Superior Iron Range Credit Union, and Shear Perfection Beauty Shop.  This fund raiser has all proceeds going to the Clock Tower Restoration Project.  Only 1,000 tickets will be sold.  Individuals selling tickets are: Gerry Stille, Jim Ghiardi, Gary Roberts, Ruth Space, Rick Wills and Jeanette Maki.  The next clock tower meeting is scheduled for July 24th at 9:30 a.m. at Gwinn Club House.

20.  Map of Little Lake-Sawyer-Gwinn areas – Jeanette / Lynn / Mike / Wells Chapin / Jodi Verbeke.  Supply stored for distribution upon request of Michigan/Wisconsin Welcome Centers.

21.  GSACC Tourist 4x 9 Rack Cards – Our supply will be out by Oct. 1st.  Jeanette will work with Avery Studios at K.I. Sawyer on new Rack Card Design in August after golf outing is over.

22. Gwinn Area Community Fund – Jeanette / Brian / Mike / Lee / Betsy.  Next meeting has been  set for July 21st at 4:30 p.m. at the Gwinn Chamber Office Omni Building on M-553.

23. Farmers Market was a huge success.  They plan to be at Peter Nordeen Park every Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. through summer and fall.  Thanks to Mike & Beth Jakubowski, Colleen Carlyle, Julie Shaw, Natasha Gill and others for taking on this innovative project.

24. The New Swanzy Bus Shelter Project is underway!.  UP Engineers & Architects are completing site and engineering drawings for County permit requirements.  We hope to have this Bus Shelter in New Swanzy up and ready by September.  Community volunteers are ready to work on this project to assist Marq- Tran Bus riders who shop in the Gwinn area.
