City of Negaunee Fire Department – Fire Prevention Week October 9 – 15

The City of Negaunee Fire Department and the Negaunee Township
Fire/EMS Department will be partnering up during Fire Prevention
week which is held from October 9th-15th. Both Departments will be
visiting Lakeview Elementary School as well as Negaunee Middl e
School on October 11th to oversee each school as they complete a
fire drill.

The Negaunee City Fire Department will then hand out free smoke
detectors (that the Negaunee Firefighters Association budgets
for yearly) to the kindergarten students at Lakeview Eleme ntary.
While handing out the smoke detectors, firefighters will give a
brief explanation of “Operation E.D.I.T.H.” (Exit Drills in the
Home), and how to safely exit a building in the event there is a
fire emergency.

The Negaunee Township Fire/EMS Department will have the
opportunity to set up their Fire Extinguisher Demonstration for
the 6th Grade Class at Negaunee Middle School.

Our goal is to not only prevent fires, but to teach students as
many tips as possible to prevent them from becoming injured in
the unfortunate event they are faced with a fire emergency.
