MARQUETTE – Senator John McCain,(R)Arizona, will likely be the Republican nominee for president barring some dramatic turn of events. With big wins Tuesday in Ohio and Texas, the senator won enough delegates to put him over the top for the nomination.
According to Michigan Party Chair Saul Anuzis, there will probably be a formal announcement by President George Bush and the Republican National Chairman Wednesday to acknowledge the new GOP standard-bearer.
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee dropped out of the race and endorsed McCain. While Texas Congressman Ron Paul has not dropped out of the presidential race, he only garnered roughly five percent of the votes in his home state.
There was good news for Paul, who is apparently holding on to his presidential race to get a speaking role at the Republican National Convention this fall. He won, by a two to one margin, the Republican primary for his congressional seat.
Anuzis added that the challenge now is uniting Republicans that supported many different candidates for many different reasons to all rally behind McCain.
Apparently the Democratic race will remain tight as Sens Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama split the Super Tuesday Part Two primaries fifty – fifty.
