BUDGET HEARING SUMMARY
JUNE 22, 2020
The Board heard the following Public Comment:

Kristy Humphrey – commented that the GEA understands the financial difficulties on the horizon but is hoping that a 2nd section of 5th grade can be reinstated at KIS for the 2020-21 school year
The Board was presented with a review of the District’s 2019-20 budget amendment and 2020-21 proposed budget, detailing the revisions to revenues and expenditures in both fiscal years.
REGULAR BOARD MEETING SUMMARY
JUNE 22, 2020
Superintendent Petrovich updated the Board on the following: local scholarship recipients for the class of 2020; sinking fund; strategic plan; athletics; graduation; and the GMS/GHS attendance policy. The Board also received a review of the recent Policy Committee meeting. Superintendent Petrovich then updated the Board on the many unknowns regarding the start of school in the fall; the current status of the student Chromebook returns; Teamster negotiations; and the recent refurbishing of the Gilbert butterfly garden and GMS/GHS G-paw garden. Mrs. Petrovich then read correspondence from Nicole Sheltrow, thanking the Board for her 2019-20 Teacher of the Year designation.
The Board took action on the following:

Approved the monthly check register in the amount of $630,908.73.

Approved a resolution to adopt the District’s amended 2019-20 General Fund and Food Service budgets. The revised budget reflects an operational surplus of $66,012 and projected 6/30/20 General Fund balance of $166,915.

Approved a resolution to adopt the District’s proposed General Fund and Food Service budgets for the 2020-21 fiscal year. The General Fund includes projected revenues of $11,351,884, expenditures of $11,499,199 and a projected 6/30/20 General Fund balance of $19,570.

Passed a resolution to borrow funds for school operations, in anticipation of state school aid, to begin the 2020-21 school year.

Approved changes to the following NEOLA bylaws and policies as a 1st reading: Curriculum Development – Approved Courses (2210); Homebound Instruction Program (2412); Reproductive Health and Family Planning (2414); Threatening Behavior toward Staff Members (3362.01); Controlled Substances and Alcohol Policy for Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Drivers and Other Employees Who Perform Safety-Sensitive Functions (4162); Attendance (5200); Care of Students with Chronic Health Conditions (5335); Authorization to Accept and Distribute Electronic Records and to Use Electronic Signatures (6107); School Calendar (8210); School Safety Information (8400); and Student Abuse and Neglect (8462).

Approved the District’s membership with the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) for the 2020-21 school year.

Approved a membership resolution to participate in the Michigan High School Athletic Association for the 2020-21 school year.
