Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore “Exploring Water” Workshop August 1st

Munising, MI – On Thursday, August 1st, educators who work with students in grades 6 through 12 are invited to attend “Exploring Water”, an educators’ workshop at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Participants will visit a wetland in the park, learn about park-based research, and take a boat ride along the shore of Lake Superior. They will also try many hands-on activities associated with water and water quality monitoring which they, in turn, can use with their students. Lessons are correlated with the Michigan Science Education Standards.

Teachers participating in the workshop will receive the Healthy Water Healthy People (HWHP) Water Quality Educators Guide and the HWHP Field Monitoring Guide (a $35 value) upon completion of the day’s activities.

This workshop is free of charge. Land-based activities will run from 10:00 am – 3:30 pm. The boat ride aboard a vessel from Pictured Rocks Cruises, will run from 4:00 – 6:30 pm (a $38 value).

This workshop is conducted in partnership with Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the Great Lakes Research and Education Center, with support from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. It is open to both formal and non-formal educators including teachers, pre-service teachers, naturalists, scout and youth leaders, and anyone who routinely teaches youth in grades 6 – 12.
