Women of the Civil War & Their Quilts June 5th

Gwinn, MI – The Forsyth Township Historical Society presents “Women of the Civil War & Their Quilts” featuring guest speaker Judy Parlato. The event will take place Wednesday, June 5th, 2019 at 7:00 pm in the Gwinn HS Library.

During the War Between the States women from both sides used their sewing skills to buy supplies to fight the war, even funding gunboats, and eventually to provide for the more personal needs of their soldiers: clothing, blankets, and medical supplies. The details differed from the North to the South and myths became part of the folklore. Those fascinating stories will be described in this program.

Judy Parlato is a retired Gwinn school teacher, passionate about history and quilting. She is a past president of the Forsyth Twp Historical Society and served as guild historian for the Marquette County Quilters Association. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own antique quilts to the presentation and share their stories.

The program is open to the public. Admission is free to members and students and $2 for others. Refreshments will be served.

This is the annual meeting of the Society and a very brief meeting to elect board members will be held prior to the start of the program.
