Marquette/K.I. Sawyer – Chapter 850 of the Experimental Aircraft Association will offer a two-day Air Academy for ages 14 to 17.
A class will be held Thursday, September 9 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Northern Michigan University’s Jacobetti Center. It will include sessions on the principles of flight, weather, navigation and air safety.
On Saturday, September 11 at 8:30 a.m. students will meet at the K.I. Sawyer General Aviation Terminal for an extended one-on-one flight with a local pilot, practicing navigation and flight control.
The day will also include a tour of the air traffic control tower and tours of the aircraft maintenance facilities. Lunch will be served.
Cost of $20 includes supplies, lunch and a T-shirt. Preregistration is required, and students must attend both sessions.
