Marquette – Author and artist, Christine Saari will read from her new book “Love and War at Stag Farm, The Story of Hirschengut, an Austrian Mountain Farm 1938-1948” on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m. in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library.
Join Saari as she describes life with her parents- academics who took up farming in Austria to retreat from the turmoil of Hitlers Germany, how the war affected the civilian family living in the foothills of the Alps and the mountain farmers culture in which she grew up.
“Love and War at Stage Farm” is a multi-layered true story told through a series of novelistic vignettes, is based on Saaris own memories, her mothers stories and a treasure trove of family letters, diaries and photographs. Stag Farm, where the Saaris spend three months each year, remains a family retreat to this day.
A book sale and signing opportunity follows the reading. There is no admission charge. For more information visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
