Escanaba, MI – The Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) announced that Escanaba High School will receive a nearly $20,000 Reach Higher System Impact grant to enhance college and career readiness. The school plans to offer a senior math foundations class to raise SAT scores in math. This would allow students greater career flexibility and avoid math remediation classes. Additionally, Escanaba High School plans to create an early/middle college support program for their fifth year students covering topics related to career and college success.
“The funds provided by the Reach Higher System Impact Grant program will provide the resources necessary for schools to implement bold changes to help their students prepare for a college education and future careers,” said Ryan Fewins-Bliss, interim executive director of the Michigan College Access Network. “In today’s knowledge-based economy, it’s imperative that we support students in their efforts to further their education. The Reach Higher System Impact Grants encourage high schools in our network to take their efforts beyond programming to drive systems change within their building.”
In this round of grants, four high schools received more than $72,000 in grants as part of the Reach Higher Grant Program. Since inception in 2015, the Reach High Grant Program has awarded nearly $1.6 million in grants to schools.
Schools across the state were selected based on a competitive grant review process. Reach Higher System Impact Grants will support programs and reforms aimed at bolstering metrics around college and career readiness in a variety of ways.
