Marquette, Michigan – Wow Animation, a new program for children in kindergarten through 12th grade, will hold a series of summer camps for kids during July and August. Children will be able to learn different animation techniques and create their own short animated videos.
Masha Kakhova, a former animator and creative director, is one of the coordinators of Wow Animation. She said animation is a great way to teach children 21st century technology, art, storytelling, science and communication in a fun way.
“We are planning camps on claymation, brickfilming and pixilation,” Kakhova said. “Our goal is to provide quality learning opportunities to everyone who is interested in the art of animated filmmaking.
WOW Animation, a program of the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum, is an educational program for children and their families that will teach students different animation techniques in a professionally set-up studio, although in kids’ friendly environment.

The second camp, Brickfilming, where children will create a short animated video from Lego or Playmobil toys, will run the week of August 4th through the 8th for ages six to nine and the week of August 11th through the 15th for ages eight to 14.
The third camp, Pixilation, where children will create a short animated video from objects and recycled materials, will run the week of August 18th through the 22nd for ages nine and up.
