Marquette – Northern Michigan University’s Special Events Committee will host the inaugural WinterFest Tailgate, prior to the NMU-Michigan Tech hockey game, on Friday, February 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. in a heated tent between the PEIF and the Berry Events Center.
The event will include hot chocolate, music by DoubleTrouble DJs and activities that incorporate the WinterFest theme of Alice in Winterland. “Minute to Win It”-style games with prizes include Queen of Hearts, which involves finding the hidden face card in the tent. Marquette – Northern Michigan University’s annual WinterFest Open Skate for NMU and community members will be held on Wednesday, February 22 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Lakeview Arena in Marquette.
Skating is free. Rentals are $3, while supplies last. Concessions will be available and Double Trouble DJs will provide music. Skaters will also have the opportunity to have their picture taken with Wildcat Willy and meet NMU athletes who will be in attendance. … Read the rest

Marquette – Saturday at the Center: Sports Heroes will be offered on Saturday, February 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marquette Regional History Center on W. Spring Street in Marquette.
This is agreat family event and just in time for Sled Dog Weekend. Learn about and even encounter some of our local sports figures who made history. View sports equipment from our museum collection and other memorabilia and listen to some great sports stories. Enjoy games and activities. Meet special guest and local hockey hero, “Sully” Jerry Sullivan, of the Marquette Iron Rangers and MTU Huskies NCAA All American.

Gwinn – An opportunity to meet the Modeltowners and Santa will be held on Saturday, December 3 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Gwinn High School.
There will be carnival games from 6 to 7:30 p.m. There will also be raffles, bounce houses, face painting, free popcorn and a meet and greet with Santa. Marquette – The UP 200 Dryland Dash will be held on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at the Marquette County Fair Grounds in Sands.
Dog teams of 2, 4 and 6, as well as single teams, will race daily. See dogs pulling people with scooters, wheeled rigs, and bicycles. This new and unique event is open to the public with no fee for parking or admission.… Read the rest

Ishpeming – Join the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame and the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce for a Ribbon Cutting on Friday, September 16 at 4:30 p.m. in front of the Hall of Fame in Ishpeming.
The Ribbon Cutting will mark the unveiling of the new “Passion to Fly” ski jumper statue. Following the ribbon cutting, there will be a cocktail reception beginning at 5 p.m., a complimentary dinner at 6 p.m. and the Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony will follow dinner from 7 to 9 p.m.

Caspian – The Upper Peninsula’s first-ever state-regulated and approved amateur mixed martial arts event is “Face-Off” will be held on Sunday, September 4 with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at the Iron County Arena in Caspian.
There are 30 scheduled bouts for the evening. “Face-Off” has an undercard of experienced local fighters as well as fighters from the western U.P., northern Wisconsin and lower Michigan. There will be food and beer available for purchase.

Ishpeming – NICE Community Schools along with Active Physical Therapy and UP Health Systems-Bell will be providing a Sports Physical Clinic on Wednesday, August 3, at the Westwood High School gym.
The clinic is open to all athletes with Juniors and Seniors at 5:30 p.m., Sophomores and Freshman at 6:30 p.m. and 6-8th graders at 7:30 p.m. Exams include a thorough eye, orthopedic, and physical evaluation, as well as, ECG Heart Screen and ImPACT Concussion Baseline Testing.
