14th Annual Iron Oars Regatta on Teal Lake Sept 15th

Marquette, MI – The Upper Peninsula Community Rowing Club (UPCRC) is again hosting the annual Iron Oars Regatta at Teal Lake in Negaunee. The event takes place on Sunday, September 15th from 8 am-1 pm. The race starts at the west end of Teal Lake finishing at the east, approximately 2 miles. This is the 14th year this event has been hosted by the club.

Michigan Tech University and Northern Michigan University will compete again for the coveted Iron Oars – Heavy Metal Series -Trophy. Other competition will include club members rowing against the time clock in different classes, as well as the youth rowers competing for time. It is an exciting event and if you have any interest in rowing, it is a great time to come see what it is all about.

The Upper Peninsula Community Rowing Club was founded in 2004 and has currently grown to 70 members. Our mission is to promote the sport of rowing in Marquette County. The club hosts Learn to Row sessions starting in June for both youth and adults. Everyone with a desire to learn is welcome. For more information, contact Gail Brayden at gbrayden@charter.net.

Area 36 Special Olympics Coach Training Sessions Sept 13 and 14

Both of these sessions will get coaches their first time certifications or established coaches their re-certifications if needed. The sessions will cover our SOMI General Coaching Rules, sport-specific rules, as well as practice drills/ideas. 10th Annual Marquette Marathon August 31st

Marquette, MI – The 10th Annual Marquette Marathon will take place Saturday, August 31st. More than 1000 runners are expected to take to the course and run through Ishpeming, Negaunee, and end up in Downtown Marquette. For more information about the event, visit the website.

Grand Island Trail Marathon July 27th

Munising, MI – The Grand Island Trail Marathon will hit the trails Saturday, July 27th! The event features 50k, marathon, and half marathon races all beginning at Williams Landing, Grand Island. Online registration is required and closes at 9pm on Friday, July 26th. Don’t wait! There is a cap for how many registrants can enter.
