Beginning Beekeeping Workshop

Ewen – Ontonagon County Michigan State University MSU Extension and Les McBean, owner of White Birch Apiary in Bruce Crossing, will offer a Beginning Beekeeping workshop on Saturday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Ewen-Trout School, 144 Airport Road in Ewen.
The focus of the workshop will be on a year in the life of a beekeeper and will cover what equipment is needed to get started, kinds of equipment easily made at home, inspecting your colonies and how to recognize a queen-right colony, a laying worker or queenless colony.
Also covered will be the different races of bees, types of queens, requeening, building bear fences, making splits divides, the latest in beekeeping news, new treatments for mites, emergency feeding-what to use and how, spring medications, spring inspection of over wintered hives, making comb honey and how to get started with a package in cold weather.

Spaghetti Dinner March 21

Marquette – The Marquette Male Chorus will be hosting an “All you can eat Spaghetti Dinner” on March 21 from 3 to 7 p.m. at St Louis the King Parish. 264 Sliver Creek Road. Harvey.
Adult Teens tickets are $6, Preteens to 6 years $3, Children 5 and under are free.

Traditional pow wow at NMU

Marquette – The 17th annual “Learning to Walk Together” traditional pow wow will be held on Saturday, March 14 at the Vandament Arena on the NMU Campus.
Grand Entry times are at noon and 6 p.m.
Dancers and singers will be from Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Ontario.

Cliffs Natural Resources Public Open Houses Feb 25-26

Ishpeming – Cliffs Natural Resources will offer two public open houses to discuss the Michigan Iron Nugget Project and offer an opportunity for the public to meet with Cliffs and Kobe Steel project planners and engineers.
The first open house will be on Wednesday, February 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tilden Township Hall.
The second open house will be on Thursday, February 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Richmond Township Hall.

Parents can sign up for time at the Round-Up and register their children for kindergarten>
