Northern Michigan University students are holding a chili cook-off to benefit organizations that help the homeless population in Marquette County on Sunday, January 21 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquett. Community members will enter their batches of chili for attendees to sample for a suggested donation of $5. Chili fixings will include cheese, sour cream, and crackers. Beverages will be available. A silent auction featuring gift certificates and other items from local will also be held during the cook-off. To generate more awareness of homelessness, a winter “camp-a-thon” will be held on January 22 through 26 on the NMU academic mall. For more information, call Bridget at 235-3267.
