Five Historic Preservation Projects Recognized with Esteemed Award

The 2018 Governor’s Awards for Historic Preservation honor a commitment to outstanding historic preservation achievements

Marquette, MICH.04/18/2018– The recipients of this year’s Governor’s Awards for Historic Preservation brought vision, partnership and determination to five noteworthy historic structures in Michigan.

“Our historical structures and archaeological sites contribute to our economy and our identity as a state, and tell us and others who we are as a people,” said Gov. Snyder. “Each May, during National Historic Preservation Month, it’s important that we recognize the people and organizations who preserve Michigan’s important historic resources.”

Now in its 15th year, the award program was created by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) at MSHDA to recognize outstanding historic preservation achievements that reflect a commitment to the preservation of Michigan’s unique character and the many archaeological sites and historic structures that document Michigan’s rich past.

“These projects would not succeed without collaboration, vision and the commitment of not only financial resources, but sweat equity and lots of energy,” said Poleski. “Governor’s Award projects demonstrate the highest standards of preservation.”
