Marquette Downtown Development Authority Establishes 2014 Downtown Marquette Farmers Market Policies

MARQUETTE, MI – At their regular meeting held March 13, 2014 the Marquette Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors reviewed the recommendations that were proposed by the Downtown Marquette Farmers Market ad hoc committee. After discussion and ensuring that the policies reflected the legal and regulatory issues as mandated by DDA legislation and that the policies are in the best interest of the market, the DDA Board of Directors took action to approve the 2014 Downtown Marquette Farmers Market policies. The Board recognized and thanked the ad hoc committee which was comprised of two farmers, an artisan, a downtown business owner, two community members, and DDA board representation. The ad hoc committee had two formal meetings where the market policies were reviewed and discussed with recommendations and were then sent to the DDA Board of Directors. The ad hoc committee meetings followed three public input sessions hosted in February 2014. The 2014 policies modify vendor fees by setting them at $125 for the 24 week season (Saturday, May 17 and ending Saturday, October 25 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) while the vendor selection process was streamlined to enhance the overall viability of the market. The policies are available at www.downtownmarquette.org or www.mqtfarmersmarket.com

The Downtown Marquette Farmers Market will be celebrating its fifteenth year of continuous operation in Downtown Marquette. In 2013 the market drew over 15,687 people with an average weekly attendance of 700. The market is comprised of fresh produce, handmade goods, and artisan wares.

2014 vendor applications will be accepted beginning Monday, March 17 through Friday, April 11. Those interested can apply at www.mqtfarmersmarket.com
