Holy Cross Political Science Prof Speaks at NMU – Tuesday, March 13

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University will host a free presentation by Daniel Mahoney, political science professor at College of the Holy Cross, titled “Lessons Learned: Recovering the Light of the Soul After the Totalitarian Scourge.” He will speak about reason, faith and political and religious freedom. The speech will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in 1311 Jamrich Hall. It includes a discussion period after the lecture.

Mahoney’s talk is presented by the Center for Academic and Intellectual Freedom as part of its speaker series, in cooperation with NMU’s English department and the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.

The aim of the series is to address squarely topics that inevitably generate interest on many college campuses today, with the hope of elevating the discourse by fostering viewpoint diversity and tolerance for a range of responsible opinion.

Columbia Professor Mark Lilla will give a campus presentation as part of the series at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the University Center’s Ontario Room. Cary Nelson will lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in Reynolds Recital Hall.

For more information, contact NMU English Professor Gabriel Noah Brahm, at 227-1690 or gbrahm@nmu.edu.
