NCLL Hosts Contra Dancing

Marquette, MIMarch 27, 2017 – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will host a contra dancing class from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, at Dance Zone in Marquette. Contra dancing has its origins in English, Irish and French country dancing and has evolved into its own form of American folk dance.

Dance Zone owner and instructor Marge Sklar will lead the workshop. In contra dancing, a caller teaches each dance along with the music, which is made up of easy-to-learn, repeated steps. Each dancer is partnered to form a couple. Parallel lines of dancers stand opposite of their partners. Over the course of the dance, each couple moves up and down the hall, interacting with every other couple in their set.

No experience is required. The cost is $3 for NCLL members and $8 for non-members. Register before Friday, March 24, by calling 227-2979. For more information, contact Marge Forslin by calling 869-4791.
