Marquette, Michigan – January 2, 2017 – On January 1, 2017 at 0704 the Marquette City Fire Department units 2052 and 2054 responded to 235 W Bluff St. for a structure fire. Upon arrival crews found a mattress burning out on the sidewalk. The mattress was brought outside from a second floor bedroom by an occupant causing burns. The occupant was treated and transported to the hospital by UPHS 141. Crews extinguished the mattress fire and searched the second floor to find smoke present. Positive pressure ventilation was used to remove the smoke and the floor was checked for fire extension, with none being found. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews were assisted at the scene by the Marquette Police Department and UPHS 141.
