Calendar – Community – Martin Luther King Jr. Week Event – Jan. 19

Marquette – Northern Michigan University will honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. with Ashley Yates, a prominent organizer of the Black Lives Matter movement and co-founder of Millennial Activists United, giving a public presentation on Thursday, January 19 at 7 p.m. in the University Center Charcoal Room.

Yates also helped to organize Ferguson October in her home state of Missouri. The event encouraged activist allies across the nation to show solidarity in the wake of Michael Brown’s death. Her views on the incident and the importance of youth resistance have been featured in the Wall Street Journal, on HuffingtonPostLive and MSNBC.

Admission is free.
