Marquette – Join the Marquette Astronomical Society for the introduction of the new high-powered Orion StarBlast Telescope on Tuesday, December 13 at 7 p.m. at the Peter White Public Library.
Larry Buege, MAS member will introduce the telescope that the society recently donated to be available for check out by library patrons. The Orion StarBlast Telescope is a compact grab-and-go telescope designed for entry-level and intermediate astronomy enthusiasts. Buege will demonstrate how to use the scope that is capable of providing bright, detailed views of solar system targets like the Moon and planets, as well as wide-field celestial objects like nebulas and star clusters.
Topics covered will include how the scope’s mirrors focus light, how magnification is calculated and how to work the viewfinder. Buege will talk about light pollution and the importance of the designation of Presque Isle Park as a Dark Sky Park.
Bruce MacDonald, PWPL Circulation Services Librarian will cover the details on how to check out the scope for use at home by using a valid PWPL library card.
