Marquette – The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center December SmallWorks Gallery exhibition will feature the works by watercolor artist, Carl Mayer. The exhibit will run from December 1 to 29 with an opening reception held on Thursday, December 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gallery on the lower level of the Peter White Public Library.
For thirty-three years Mayer taught art to youth in the Marquette Area Public Schools System and served as the Head of the Art Department until he retired in 1991. During all of this time, he remained active in watercolor painting and attended several workshops with well-known watercolor artists like Edgar Whitney, Robert E. Wood, and Zoltan Szabo.
Today, Mayer continues to share his love of watercolor techniques in painting classes for adults of varying skills. His exhibit, “Sights and Sounds of Lake Superior,” will showcase his favorite subject matter – the great outdoors.
