Marquette – Northern Michigan University’s Center for Native American Studies will present a free performance by the Woodland Sky Dance Company on Friday, November 18 at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Recital Hall on the campus of NMU. It is part of NMU’s Native American Heritage Month celebration taking place in November.
The Woodland Sky Dance Company seeks to educate audiences on Native culture and values through the performance of songs, music and dances. The Woodland Singers from Baraga will accompany the dancers. The Woodland Sky Dance Company, established in 2013,is comprised of Native American Ojibwe, Sioux and Potawatomi dancers from Michigan and Wisconsin. The group showcases multiple men’s and women’s dance styles, including traditional, fancy, jingle, grass and hoop dance.
