Ishpeming – The 90th Anniversary Barnes-Hecker Remembrance events will close with a Candlelight Vigil on Saturday, November 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum, on the corner of Lakeshore and Euclid Streets in Ishpeming.
The event will take place in the heated Rock Room and the unheated Dry. For the first time in history, the names of the 42 wives will be read with their husbands’ names. At 6:30 p.m. the names of the 51 lost men and the 42 wives will be read by students from Ishpeming High School; at 7 p.m. the names will be read by students from Negaunee High School; and at 7:30 p.m. the names will be read by students from Westwood High School.
Closing remarks will follow and the event will conclude with a musical tribute. Warm beverages and light refreshments will be served.
