Marquette – The Wordsmith Writer series will welcome Wayne A. Wiegand, PhD, for a
presentation on the special place public libraries hold in American society on Thursday, June 30 at 7 p.m in the Shiras Room of the the Peter White Public Library.
Wiegand’s new book, “Part of Our Lives” traces the history of the American public library through records and testimonies from as early as 1850, as voiced by everyday patrons who cherished libraries. Published in September 2015, the book paints a clear and engaging picture of Americans who value libraries not only as civic institutions, but also as social spaces for promoting and maintaining community.
A book sale and signing opportunity will follow the presentation. There is no admission charge. For more information call the Peter White Public Library at 906-226-4318 or visit www.pwpl.info.
