Marquette – The Marquette Maritime Museum will open for the 2016 season on Saturday, June 4 at 11 a.m. The museum is on Lakeshore Drive in Marquette. It will be open daily 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed on Mondays) through mid-October.
The museum features the best and largest collection of lighthouse lenses in the Great Lakes, some over 12-foot tall, exhibits on shipwrecks including the Edmund Fitzgerald, commercial fishing and the transformation of Marquette’s Lower Harbor from industrial to today’s gem. The Darter-Dace Annex tells the powerful story of the combat actions of the two U.S. submarines as well as Marquette native Captain David McClintock, commander of the DARTER and his crew.
The museum gift shop has the finest collection of maritime themed art and craft produced by local artists. Special tours of Marquette Harbor Lighthouse are also conducted by the museum.
