‘In the Name of the Father’ Shown at NMU – Monday, February 15th

Marquette, Michigan – The Northern Michigan University history film series continues with a showing of “In the Name of the Father” starring Daniel Day-Lewis on Monday, Feb. 15. The event begins at 7 p.m. in Mead Auditorium in the West Science Building. Admission is free.

Based on a true story, the film follows Gerry Conlon, a small-time thief from Belfast, Ireland, who is falsely implicated in the IRA bombing of a pub that kills several people. He and four friends are coerced by British police into confessing their guilt. Conlon’s father and other relatives in London are also implicated in the crime. Gerry spends 15 years in prison with his father trying to prove his innocence with the help of a British attorney.

NMU history professor Chet Defonso will provide the introduction and lead a post-film discussion. The history film series is sponsored by the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center, NMU History Department and the NMU History Club.
