February Exhibits: Paul Rose And Paulette Carr

Marquette, MI – The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center announces its February LSAA Gallery exhibition by photographer, Paul Rose. Paul began studying photography in the early 70s at the Detroit Center for Creative Studies where he graduated with his Bachelor of Fine Arts. Following graduation, he went on to study with noted photographers Ansel Adams, Robert Vigiletti, and Steve Benson. Since then, he has continued to capture the life around him, with incredible attention to the shapes and values of each scene. Today Paul divides his time between the Upper Peninsula and New Mexico. His award-winning work can be found in galleries across the Southwest and Michigan.

The February SmallWorks Gallery will feature work by multimedia artist, Paulette Carr. As a young girl, Paulette began her exploration of the creative world with garment construction. Since then she has created everything from art quilts and doll clothes, to her daughter’s hand beaded wedding gown. In 2012, when her daughter was diagnosed for a second time with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and required a stem cell transplant, Paulette found peace in mixed media art. Combining drawings with paint and collage allowed her to take a step away from her worries, even if it was just for a short while. Three and a half years later, her daughter is doing very well and Paulette continues to create beautiful mixed media art.

Both exhibits will be up from February 2-26. There will be a combined artist reception on Thursday, February 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. which coincides with Lake Superior Art Association’s Winter Charm reception at the Huron Mountain Club Gallery in the Peter White Public Library. The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be provided.

The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center is located in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library. For more information or questions, please contact (906) 228-0472 or email arts-culture@mqtcty.org.
