Marquette – The Building Hope in Uncertain Times series will offer “An Evening with Lady Day,” a concert honoring the music of Billie
Holiday on Thursday, February 11 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.
The concert will feature vocalist Kirsten Gustafson accompanied by Dave Ziegner on the bass and Phil Lynch at the piano.
Billie Holiday was nicknamed ‘Lady Day’ and had a seminal influence on jazz music and pop singing. Her vocal style pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. Holiday’s song “Crazy He Calls
Me” contains the lyric “the impossible will take a little while” which is the title of the book the Building Hope program series is centered on.
There is no admission charge to the event. For more information, go to www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
