Marquette – The Building Hope in Uncertain Times series will offer a screening of the documentary film “Freedom Riders” on Monday, January 18 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.
Shown in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, “Freedom Riders” is a powerful harrowing and inspirational story of six months in 1961 that changed America forever. From May until November 1961, more than 400 black and white Americans risked their lives—and many endured savage beatings and imprisonment—for simply traveling together on buses and trains as they journeyed through the Deep South.
Winner of three Primetime Emmy Awards, “Freedom Riders” was released in 2010, is not rated and runs for 117 minutes.
There is no admission charge thanks to sponsorship by the Marquette County Community Foundation, PWPL Friends and Carroll Paul MemorialTrust Fund of the Peter White Public Library, and the Emerick Family
Fund of the Marquette County Community Foundation.
