Escanaba, Michigan – November 13, 2015 – The Delta County Airport is excited to be able to finally showcase the hand-crafted wood airplanes, donated to us by Mr. Melton Demerse. Melton has been constructing the wooden aircrafts by hand over 25 years and graciously gifted most of these planes to the airport.
“What a great birthday present, to see all the planes hanging. I turn 87 next week and this is just fantastic,” Melton exclaimed after seeing the display for the first time today.
“The excitement I personally feel surprising Mr. Demerse today is overwhelming for me. He is such a wonderful man, and to be able to have all the planes installed and see his expression on his face when he saw they were all done will stay with me,”commented Kelly Smith, Airport Manager.
“These airplanes are such a fun and educational addition to the inside of the terminal and we are so thrilled to finally have them installed so now everyone gets to enjoy Melton’s talent for years to come,” stated Smith.
The Delta County Airport welcomes anyone to come in and see the airplanes, even if you aren’t catching a flight or picking up a passenger. The terminal is open all day.
