Cedarville, Michigan – October 8, 2015 – The Michigan Natural Resources Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday, Oct. 8, at Clark Township Community Center, 133 East M-134, in Cedarville.
The day begins with a 9 a.m. meeting of the Michigan State Parks Advisory Committee, which will receive a parks and recreation update and accomplishments report from Ron Olson, chief of the Department of Natural Resources’ Parks and Recreation Division. In addition, the committee will review a camping survey and highlights from a Tourism Cares event at Fayette State Park. The committee also will hear updates on Silver Lake State Park, the state’s trails program, Belle Isle and the Outdoor Adventure Center. The session will wrap up with a presentation on Michigan rehabilitative services partnerships.
At 1 p.m., the Policy Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries will discuss fisheries regulations, the early elk season, antler point restrictions and hunter retention. The committee also will receive a forecast for the 2015 deer hunting season.
The Committee of the Whole meets at 2:30 p.m. to receive DNR Director Keith Creagh’s report and a legislative update. Updates will cover parks and trails developments, Upper Peninsula educational programs, management of state forest lands, and partnerships with Lake Superior State University.
At 4 p.m. the DNR will present Partners in Conservation Awards to Plum Creek Timber Company, for its dedication to preserving wintering deer yard complexes, and to North Country Trail Hikers, a chapter of the North Country Trail Association, for its efforts in maintaining and improving the North Country Trail.

Following public comments, the NRC is scheduled to set regulations for warm-water fish species; for Michigan-Wisconsin boundary waters, and for the taking of mollusks.
DNR Director Creagh is scheduled to announce decisions on several proposed land transactions.
