DNR’s Eastern Upper Peninsula Citizens Advisory Council to meet in Cedarville – Oct. 8

Lansing, MichiganOctober 7, 2015 – From Great Lakes net pen aquaculture, to deer and land management plans and a grant-funded wetlands improvement project for Munuscong Bay, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Eastern Upper Peninsula Citizens Advisory Council will have a great deal to discuss that’s of interest to the public when the panel meets next month in Mackinac County.

The meeting will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (EDT) Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Clark Township Community Center, 133 E. M-134, Cedarville. The public can participate by offering comments to the discussion during two specified periods. (For instructions, see www.michigan.gov/upcac.)

During the new business portion of the meeting, DNR Fisheries Division Chief Jim Dexter will describe the process for review of Great Lakes commercial net pen aquaculture, DNR wildlife biologist Dave Jentoft will detail a grant-funded wetlands improvement project for Munuscong Bay, and DNR deer program biologist Ashley Autenrieth will discuss a deer-management field day.

Autenrieth also will provide a DNR Deer Management Plan update, and Stacy Haughey, DNR U.P. regional coordinator, is scheduled to provide an update on the DNR’s Land Management Plan.

The Michigan Natural Resources Commission also will be meeting in Cedarville Oct. 8 prior to the Eastern CAC meeting.

The DNR’s eastern and western Upper Peninsula citizens advisory councils are designed to provide local input to advise the DNR on regional programs and policies, identify areas in which the department can be more effective and responsive, and offer insight and guidance from members’ own experiences and constituencies.

Council members represent a wide variety of natural resources and recreation interests. Agenda items are set by council members, and council recommendations are forwarded to the DNR for consideration.

Anyone interested in being considered a future council member should fill out the nomination form found on the DNR website at www.michigan.gov/upcac. For more information, contact the DNR Upper Peninsula regional coordinator’s office at 906-226-1331.
