Chamber Annual Dinner Celebrates Delta County – Sept. 30

Escanaba, MichiganSeptember 30, 2015 – Break out the Lederhosen and hoist that stein of beer, it’s time to celebrate the accomplishments of the community at the Delta Chamber’s Oktoberfest Annual Dinner at the Island Resort and Casino.

Members of the Delta Chamber of Commerce will meet on Thursday, Oct. 8, for the Chamber’s Annual Dinner. This year’s theme is “Oktoberfest”. Executive director Vickie Micheau said the popular fall theme is a great way to highlight the growing craft beer industry in Escanaba and the Upper Peninsula.

“This is our opportunity to really celebrate Delta County,” Micheau said. “It’s a great chance for us to get everyone together and show how much we appreciate the incredible amount of work and dedication that our member businesses put forth to make Delta County a great place to live, work and visit.”

A graduation ceremony will be held for members of the Delta Force leadership development program. This is the 13th year for the program.

Delta Force exposes students to different aspects of the community each month such as law enforcement, education, government and media communications. As with any graduation, a member of the Delta Force class will provide a commencement speech to talk about this year’s achievements.

“As we watch 13 years of students that have graduated through Delta Force and the positions that they have assumed in this community, we realize that it has been good for Delta County and is a very rewarding experience for all of the sponsors and facilitators involved in the program,” Micheau said.

Area businesses and community members will also be recognized during an awards program. Awards include:

  • Athena Award
  • Educational Excellence Award sponsored by the Community Foundation for Delta County
  • Community Ambassador Award sponsored by the Delta County Ambassadors
  • Century Award sponsored by the Delta County Economic Development Alliance
  • Schottenhamel Award, a special theme award, sponsored by the Bays de Noc Convention and Visitors Bureau
  • Volunteer of the Year Award sponsored by the Daily Press
  • Business of the Year sponsored by Michigan Works! The Job Force Board

Micheau said the awards program is a highlight of the Annual Dinner.

“I worry that sometimes we don’t have enough time to give enough recognition to those that make Delta County special. This is our opportunity to give those in our community the credit they deserve,” she said.

Oktoberfest at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner is certainly a reason to polka.

Tickets for the Delta Chamber Annual Dinner are available online at deltami.org or at the Commerce Center at 230 Ludington Street in Escanaba. The event is co-sponsored by Michigan Works! the Job Force Board and the Island Resort & Casino. A social hour starts at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m.

A new board of directors will be installed during the program. Joining the 15-member board will be Jennifer LaChance with Bink’s Wine & Beverages, Allie Prim of Upper Peninsula State Bank and Kelly Jefferson of OSF St. Francis Hospital and Medical Group. Brenda Lippens, president of Delta County Credit Union, will also return to the board as a voting member after one-year of ex-officio status.

The board helps direct the operations of the Commerce Center. Micheau said they do so by serving on various committees.

“We have a special events committee, personnel and operations, finance committee, workforce development committee, community and economic development. And so, the committees develop a plan of work for the year, the board approves the plan annually and every month we report on our progress to reach the goals of the committees.” Micheau said.

The mission of the Chamber is to promote economic and community development in Delta County.

“The Annual Dinner gives us a chance to not only look back on the great accomplishments of this community but then to also look forward to upcoming events and activities planned for 2016,” said Micheau.
