Marquette, Michigan – September 25, 2015 – The Community Foundation of Marquette County (CFMC) has been working attentively for over 26 years to build, inspire and impact our quality of life in Marquette County. Established in 1988 as a non-profit organization, the Foundation was created to help our donors make a positive impact on their community. Encouraging a focal point on sustainable grant making, the Foundation has promoted lasting endowed charitable gifts from residents inspired to build a community and environment where citizens are engaged, healthy and content.
Since its inception over $4 million dollars in grants and scholarships have been awarded through the support of our donors. Today the Foundation invests over $13 million in assets built through the generous gifts of people throughout our communities.
On September 29, 2015 CFMC in conjunction with its four (4) component funds (the Greater Ishpeming Area Community Fund, Negaunee Area Community Fund, the Gwinn Area Community Fund, and the Big Bay Community Advised Fund) will observe its 26th anniversary through a donor appreciation celebration and fundraiser. The event, open to both past and potential patrons, will be held at 5:30 pm in the University Center at Northern Michigan University.
The evening’s activity will include recognition of the four catalyst award recipients nominated by the Board of Trustees. These four awards are given to a youth and individual leader, a business, and a service club or organization. These recipients have demonstrated a long serving commitment to our Marquette community through volunteerism and/or philanthropy. They are each a catalyst through their example and unselfish efforts to volunteer and/or be a benefactor.
CFMC President Jack Lenten said, “The founders of the Community Foundation began with donations of $30,000 and the hope that others would see the wisdom of establishing a saving account that embraced a long range perspective of doing good in the community.”
Many of our funds have been established during a donor’s lifetime while others were established as part of an estate plan. Our board of directors hold the wishes of our donors in highest rank and consider it a privilege to serve them.
