Marquette, Michigan – Bluesday Tuesday welcomes local blues band, Mike Letts and the Marquettes, in a live concert on Tuesday, January 26 at 7:00 pm in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.
Formed in 2010 as a father and son project, Mike Letts and the Marquettes play music solidly centered in traditional blues. The band became very popular on the local music scene, with regular gigs on their own as well as opening for Lurrie Bell, the international star of Chicago blues. The band’s sound stays true to the blues tradition with a wide variety of styles from west coast swing to Texas shuffle and urban Chicago grooves.
In recent years, the band lineup has shifted as members Travis and Jon left the area to pursue musical projects on the national and international level. By late 2015 both returned to Marquette, so the original Marquettes lineup is back and their first official gig will be at the Peter White Public Library Bluesday Tuesday.
The band’s members are Mike Letts on guitar and vocals, his son Jon Letts playing upright and electric bass, Travis Swanson, on guitar and vocals and Jim Cohen on the drums. There is no admission charge to attend the event which is co-sponsored by the Marquette Area Blues Society and the Carroll Paul Memorial Trust Fund of the Peter White Public Library.
