Marquette – “There’s No Place Like Home: Marquette Branch Prison” will be offered on Wednesday, October 21 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.
The evening celebrating a unique piece of Marquette history with Bob Buchkoe, Jack Deo and special guest, Stan Wright is a benefit for the Peter White Public Library.
Robert “Da Bobster” Buchkoe, a piano teacher/pianist spent the first 17 years of his life growing up at the Marquette Branch Prison while his father served as the warden there. Bob will share stories about “doing time” and how his life was impacted by this very unusual childhood home.
Jack “Da Clicker” Deo of Superior View Studios will
present a slide show of historic photos of the prison, including the construction phase. Deo is the steward of the visual archives of the prison, given to him by a former prison photographer.
Special guest Stan “Da Pipes” Wright, will round out the evening by performing a prison song written by a Marquette inmate. The song was published in 1931 and became a minor hit at the time, selling nationally and recorded by various artists.
A suggested donation of $5 per person will be accepted at the door for this fun, and somewhat tongue in cheek evening with proceeds to go to the library.
