Marquette – Shakespeare Readers will meet for a reading of “Dido, Queen of Carthage” by Shakespeare contemporary Christopher Marlowe on Wednesday, October 7 at 6:30 pm in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library.
The story of the play tells an intense dramatic tale of Dido and her fanatical love for Aeneas (induced by Cupid), Aeneas’ betrayal of her and her eventual suicide on his departure for Italy. The story line is taken from Virgil’s Aeneid.
Shakespeare Readers will focus on contemporaries of William Shakespeare this fall in order to better understand the work of the Bard himself. They meet on the first Wednesday of each month and new readers are always welcome.
