“The Weir” will be performed on stage at the Peter White Public Library on September 24-26

Marquette, Michigan – Irish playwright/screenwriter/director Conor McPherson’s award winning ghost story, “The Weir” will be performed on stage at the Peter White Public Library on September 24-26 in the library’s community room. Tickets are now available for purchase at the Peter White Public Library circulation desk.

In an ‘acting Tour de Force’, Vertigo Theatre Company takes the audience to a small rural pub in Ireland where the locals are swapping tales of the supernatural. Winner of the1997 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play, “The Weir” showcases the veteran actors’ amazing talents in this fully staged event.

The play is as much about lack of close relationships and missed connections as it is about anything else. The weir of the title is the name of the pub, named for a dam on a nearby waterway. It anticipates and symbolizes the flow of the stories into and around each other, and how they have all collected together in one place to be recounted together.

First performed in London England in 1997 and then on Broadway in 1999, “The Weir” has been staged in multiple cities across the United States, in Canada and Great Britain.

Multi-award winner Conor McPherson is known for his films The Eclipse (2009), The Actors (2003) and I Went Down (1997) and in addition to The Weir, his award winning plays include The Good Thief, The Shining City , The Seafarer and Dublin Carol.

Vertigo Theatre Company strives to produce theatre that is both thought-provoking and of the highest quality. This group of local, experienced professionals produces quality, forward-thinking theatre that challenges and enriches both artists and audiences. Previous acclaimed performances of Vertigo Theatre Company include “ A Christmas Carol”, “It’s A Wonderful Life”, “Rabbit Hole”, “Fat Pig” and “Last Five Years”.

Audiences ages 16 and up are invited to experience the eerie drama of “The Weir” at performances on Thursday September 24 and Friday September 25 at 7:00 pm, with a Saturday September 26 matinee at 2:00pm in the Peter White Public Library’s Community Room. The Weir is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York. Tickets for admission cost $7.50 each and are only available in advance at the library circulation desk, on the main floor, or by calling 906-228-9510. Proceeds benefit the library. Advance purchase is required due to space constraints. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
