The Great Lakes Mercury Collection Program Gets support from some Girl Scouts

State of Michigan, May, 2015.    US Ecology, Inc. has partnered with the State of Michigan for the third year to facilitate the collection of mercury through The Great Lakes Mercury Collection Program.

Daisy Troop 40062, Saline, MI (Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan) became involved in the collection after working toward their Global Action Awareness badges in April. The troop leader, Jennifer Drummer, ordered the collection bucket and, stressing close adult supervision, she and the members of the troop are collecting thermometers.  “It’s been interesting to watch the girls experience a way to help the environment without being outside”, said Jennifer, “They are now checking many household items – they are aware.”

Any Michigan resident or business can contact US Ecology for a free collection bucket/box and instruction kit by calling 877-960-2025, or by emailing mercurybucket@usecology.com. The container is delivered to the residence or business with a return UPS label. Mercury devices such as thermostats, thermometers, gauges, barometers, switches, relays, sensors, dental amalgam and much more can be placed in the bucket or box and returned to US Ecology for proper disposal using the UPS label. US Ecology will ensure proper recycling methods, which will reduce the amount of mercury from entering the earth’s environment.

More information on the Mercury Collection Program can be found: http://greatlakesrestoration.us/ or the US Ecology website at https://www.usecology.com/Services/EnvironmentalServices/Recycling/MercuryCollectionProgram
