MARQUETTE – This comedy/drama centers on unorthodox, irreverent DJ Adrian Cronauer, who shakes things up when he is assigned to the US Armed Services Radio station in Vietnam. In contrast to the dull, by-rote announcers that have preceded him, this disk jockey is a bundle of dynamite, playing whatever records he chooses and indulging in wild flights of improvisational fancy. After experiencing the horrors of war first-hand, Cronauer insists upon telling his listeners the truth instead of the official government line, he is instantly replaced and must struggle to get back on the air.
Starring Robin Williams and Forest Whitaker, “Good Morning, Vietnam” was nominated for an Academy Award. Williams received the best actor Golden Globe Award and a Grammy Award for his performance in this film which was released in 1987, is rated R for language and runs for 119 minutes.
