The next event in the Your Health public lecture series at Northern Michigan University will focus on promoting nutrition and physical activity in children. Joseph Carlson from Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine will give the free presentation at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, in NMU’s Reynolds Recital Hall. He will share findings from a community collaboration called “Spartners for Heart Health,” which was designed to help fifth-grade students sustain or improve heart health through nutrition and physical activity.
Carlson is a professor in MSU’s department of radiology, sports and cardiovascular nutrition program. His studies focus on nutrition, dietary supplements, exercise and their influences on cardiovascular health. He has served as a research associate at the Stanford University School of Medicine, Center for Research in Disease Prevention and served as a public health nutritionist with the State of Nevada.
The Your Health lecture series is sponsored by Northern Michigan University, U.P. Health System-Marquette, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the MSU College of Human Medicine Upper Peninsula campus.
