MARY POPPINS MUSICAL February 27th – March 7th

Marquette, Michigan – Tickets are now on sale for the Lake Superior Youth Theatre production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s MARY POPPINS playing at the Forest Roberts Theatre in Marquette starting on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 7 p.m. through Saturday, March 7, 2015. Everyone’s favorite practically perfect nanny takes the stage in this Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure. The Lake Superior Youth Theatre cast contains approximately 105 youth ages 4 to 18 led by Director, Nikke Nason.

One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical! Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven TONY Awards, including Best Musical. The show features original music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, book by Julian Fellowes, new songs and additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe and co-created by Cameron Mackintosh.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert (played by Ricky Vermeulen), introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family (with George Banks played by Kees Gray and Winifred Banks played by Megan Armstrong). Young Jane (played by Kayla Grugin and understudy Senia Manson) and Michael (played by Antonio Stabile and understudy Asa Naigus) have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins (played by Sophie Shahbazi and understudy Mallory Grugin) arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones she has a profound effect upon. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.”

The Lake Superior Youth Theatre’s mission is to empower young people to maximize their potential through performance arts training and the creation of outstanding theatrical and musical art. Previous productions in the past years have included “Narnia”, “Seussical Jr.”, “Annie Jr.” and “Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr”.

Join Lake Superior Youth Theatre in their family friendly production MARY POPPINS Friday, February 27th at 7 p.m., Saturday, February 28th at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., Sunday, March 1st 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., Friday, March 6th at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 7th at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
